Summer Academy Bursaries & Scholarships

Bursary Guidance 

The information and form below is for anybody applying for a bursary due to their financial position. If you have applied for a bursary as part of the underrepresented groups, you do not need to complete the form below.

Bursaries are awarded on a rolling basis with no deadline so we encourage all students to apply as soon as they can.

Our Bursary Supporters 

We would like to say a special thank you for the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation for supplying funding for bursaries and scholarships to student's who are studying on the Theatre strand, and to the Leeds Conservatoire Access Agreement for supplying funding for student's who are studying on the Performance and Music Production strands. 

Bursary Eligibility

Both Leeds Conservatoire's Access Agreement and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation award bursaries and scholarships towards students’ tuition fees, based on merit and financial need for families with a total household taxable income below £42,875.

Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Scholarships also support young people from currently underrepresented backgrounds (i.e. Black, Asian and ethnic minority students, disabled students and those from low income households).


Types of Income Evidence

Please indicate if your household is in receipt of any of the following and provide the evidence requested. We cannot process applications without income evidence.

Income Support: Official letter confirming benefit dated 2020, or recent bank statement showing payment into your account. (recent = within last 2 months)

Job Seekers Allowance or ESA: Official letter confirming benefit dated 2020, or recent bank statement showing payment (recent = within last 2 months)

Tax Credits/Universal Credit with gross household income of less than £42,875: Copy of Tax Credit/Universal Credit Award Notice for 2019/20 or 2020/21(all pages)

Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support: Copy of recent letter from Local authority showing eligibility (NB 25% discount for single person occupancy does not qualify on its own)

Other circumstances you wish us to consider e.g. income affected by coronavirus: Provide full evidence of household income (i.e. P60s/letter from employer, or if not a possible family statement)


Young Musician's Personal Statement - To be completed by the young musician

Please write around 200 words. You may wish to use the following points as a guide:

• What made you want to learn a musical instrument/start singing/start producing/start theatre?
• Why did you choose to study this instrument/area of study?
• What do you hope to achieve?
• Why is your chosen area of study important to you?
• What do you enjoy most about your chosen area of study?
