Amber Haslam, aka Amber D, is taking on an extraordinary challenge just weeks after achieving a master’s degree in Music Production.
The 44-year-old DJ recently graduated from Leeds Conservatoire and is embarking on a series of projects that will see her combine music, charity work, and international touring.

Amber’s journey into higher education was prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic when lockdown restrictions brought live events and DJ performances to a halt.
"The pandemic stopped DJs from being able to work, and I found myself doing more livestreaming," she said. "That inspired me to pursue the BA Music Production degree, which later led me to continue on to the MA."
Amber combined her undergraduate and postgraduate studies with family and work commitments. She said: "I have a very understanding husband. Being organised was key. Music is something I absolutely love, so it never really felt like studying. Music is embedded in me and being musical every day just felt normal.”
She credits the conservatoire’s supportive environment and close-knit community in helping her achieve a Distinction at master’s level.
"I loved that the conservatoire is smaller. We all got to know each other well and the class sizes were manageable. I always felt I could talk to my tutors, seek advice and clarify anything I wasn't sure about."
Her advice to prospective students is as follows: "Absolutely do it. It's so much fun, and the modules are incredibly helpful. You'll learn things that can enhance your career regardless of your level of experience."
Following her studies, Amber’s schedule shows no signs of slowing. In partnership with the charity Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, for which she serves as an ambassador, she will travel to Nepal in November to climb Tilicho Lake and support the world’s highest back-to-back DJ set. Funds raised will support projects in Nepal helping young people to express themselves positively through music.
After a brief return home, Amber will head to Australia for a three-date DJ tour, performing in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. Alongside her international work, Amber remains closely connected to the Leeds music scene as presenter of The Hard Dance Show on LDC Radio (97.8 FM).
As she continues to push creative boundaries around the world, Amber demonstrates the value of lifelong learning.
