Taking place at Besbrode Pianos from 2:00PM, the event will see Alistair in conversation with Ellis, one of the UK’s most exciting emerging classical musicians. Ellis’ remarkable journey from growing up in poverty in Meanwood to becoming a rising star of the classical music world was featured in Working Classical Heroes, a film made for Sky Arts.
Ellis later gained national recognition through his appearance on Channel 4’s The Piano, hosted by Claudia Winkleman. Judges classical pianist Lang Lang and popstar Mika were wowed by Ellis’ performance of ‘Ballade No.4’ by Chopin, noting “he’s fearless” and “it was really beautiful.”
The conversation, interspersed with three live piano performances from Ellis, will explore the realities of growing up without privilege, overcoming obstacles and finding confidence through creativity.
Members of local charity Music House will be amongst the audience. Ellis said: “Music House represents exactly what music should be about – giving people opportunities, confidence and a sense of belonging. I’m looking forward to performing and sharing my story with an audience that understands how important those opportunities can be.”
