Attendance

To get the most out of LJC your student must commit to attending during term time. Performance and musicianship lessons involve working collaboratively with other young musicians, and everyone will make more progress when everyone is present.

What should I do if my student can’t attend?

If your student is are unable to attend, you should contact [email protected] no later that 8:45 on the Saturday they will be away and explain the reason for the absence.

Reasons for authorised absences would include

  • Being ill
  • Permission in advance for a school event or other performance
  • Medical appointment
  • Religious observation

What if my student is going to be late?

If you are running late, please let us know on [email protected]

What happens if my student doesn’t arrive and LJC hasn’t been notified

Parents/Carers will be sent a text, checking that everything is ok and asking them to update LJC regarding the absence.

If you are in receipt of a bursary or scholarship, unauthorised absences may lead to a repayment of some or all of the bursary awarded.

What happens if my student misses more than one week?

  • After two consecutive weeks of unauthorised absence an email will be sent to their parent/carer.
  • If they have missed 20% of their lessons without a good reason, their parent/carer will be sent a formal letter requesting a meeting with you and their family to discuss the next steps.
  • Continued absences, may result in your place at LJC being withdrawn.

Attendance leading up to Festivals

  • Attendance leading up to performance dates is expected, and any absences at this time need to be requested two months in advance. This is for absences on the four session dates before the performance date. One missing person can have a huge impact on the other band members.

If there is something about your lesson that worries or concerns you, get in touch or come and talk to the LJC team at the sign-in desk at break time. We are always happy to listen and help.
