Applicants who have undertaken learning which has been formally assessed and certified by another educational institution or training provider, as well as applicants who have gained formal recognition of learning through other experience (e.g. in-house training programmes that are not externally assessed), may be able to use this towards their study at Leeds Conservatoire. The following document provides further information on the conservatoire’s APL application procedure.

2:1 undergraduate qualification. Usually theatre, music or theatre/music related, but qualifications in other fields will also be reviewed and considered.
Directing applicants will be asked to present an idea for a production of an established text, work with actors in person to assess their skills in this area and attend an interview.
Dramaturgy applicants will be asked to present an idea for a project telling a personal narrative or story.
Musical Directing applicants will provide a portfolio of their previous work/material. Either as a composer, arranger, instrumentalist or musical director.
Candidates must also demonstrate appropriate proficiency in their chosen discipline, or disciplines (songwriting, performance, writer performer, writer producer), which will be assessed through an interview/audition.
A high level of spoken and written English is required for the course, so some applicants may be subject to additional English language requirements on top of academic requirements.
The English requirements vary depending on whether you require a visa to study in the UK, and whether English is the main spoken language in your home country. All students requiring a visa to study in the UK must meet the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) department's English Language requirement of IELTS 6.0 with no sub-test less than 5.5.
Our English Language Entry Requirements table provides details on any alternative exams or qualifications.
