Else Skogan Bonesrønning - BA (Hons) Music (Jazz)

Else Skogan Bonesrønning is a gifted young Norwegian vocalist currently studying on the BA (Hons) Music (Jazz) degree.

Else grew up in Trondheim, Norway, where she was classically trained for over a decade. This led her to perform on a Grammy nominated album with TrondheimSolistene. In more recent years, Else has explored the world of jazz and ever since, she has excelled at delivering performances of the highest standard. The dedication for her craft shines in her mellow and soothing tone, which has paved the way for her education at LCoM.

Else graduated from LCoM in July 2018.

What has been the most important thing you've learned at LCoM?

The importance of marketing, and how big of a difference it could make for your career.

What are you planning on doing after graduation?

I'm planning on moving back to Norway to continue to develop as a musician. I will still try to travel to Leeds as much as possible as I have a few projects here that I would like to keep up. I have also met lots of lovely people in Leeds that I would like to keep in touch with!

Is there anything you've encountered over the last few years that has really made you push yourself as a musician or anything new that you had not tried before?

In general, the life as a musician is busy - and there is always a lot to do. I have pushed myself and have, for example, found ways to learn new material quicker, which is always a plus as time is precious.

What is the best piece of advice you've been given at LCoM?

To grab every opportunity that comes up, you never know where they'll take you.

What has been the best project / opportunity you've had during your degree?

During my second and third year, I composed and recorded my debut EP - "High Expectations". This was recorded in the facilities at Leeds College of Music which I am grateful to have had the opportunity to do so.

What has been the biggest challenge and how has this helped you develop?

The biggest challenge for me has been time-management, as I am constantly working on new projects. Over the past three years, I've learnt that it's important to make some time for yourself sometimes as well.

What is your favourite LCoM Memory?

My favourite memory from Leeds College of Music is the CUK big band concert that I got to be a part of in October 2017. I was lucky enough to perform some of my favourite music, "Sweet Time Suite" by Kenny Wheeler.

What advice would you give to others thinking of applying to your course at LCoM?

I would just do it, it's the best decision I have made! As well as enjoying the college, I really like Leeds in general, as it is an amazing city to study in.

How would you describe your experience at LCoM in three words?

Creative, intense and inspiring.
