Rural England, 1759. As Halley’s Comet prepares to pass overhead, a young woman is sentenced to hang for a brutal murder. When she claims to be pregnant, a jury of twelve local matrons are tasked with examining the accused and decide upon her fate, whilst navigating their own secrets, prejudices and the harsh realities of 18th-century sisterhood.
Part gripping courtroom thriller, part dark comedy, The Welkin is a fierce, breath-taking look at history, justice, and the power of women's voices.
