Our BA (Hons) Voice (Performance and Pedagogy) degree is for aspiring voice professionals and future voice teachers who have a passion for singing or want to bring out the best in others’ voices. You’ll focus on vocal performance, industry skills and pedagogy, and develop a comprehensive foundation in technical skills and methodologies.

Course Overview

Whatever your musical interests – pop, classical, jazz, folk or musical theatre – you’ll focus on a genre of your choice, explore a range of different musical styles under our expert guidance and explore all aspects of vocal techniques and practices.

Through tailored one-to-one tuition and taught group sessions with voice professionals, you’ll learn the discipline of performance and stage craft and have the creative freedom to collaborate with other students.

You’ll explore a wide range of career possibilities for voice professionals including community music, music therapy and vocal tuition while refining your proficiency as a performer and versatile voice practitioner.

You’ll have opportunities to engage with music technologies, and develop teaching, vocal health, music theory, composition, voice acting and music business skills you’ll need to cultivate a successful career in the music industry and beyond.

Industry Collaboration

Gain real-world inspiration and guidance through masterclasses, Q&As and creative sessions with industry professionals, giving you a chance to connect with the people shaping the future of the industry. 

Creative Opportunities

You’ll get to perform on and off campus, collaborate with songwriters, producers, vocal groups and choirs, and work alongside voice professionals to hone your creative and training skills. 

Facilities

You’ll have access to industry-standard resources in your free time to pursue your own projects, whether that be working in our extensive range of practice rooms, rehearsing in band rooms, or recording in Mac Labs or studios. 

Graduate Destinations

Graduates can go into live performance as a solo artist, vocal coach, community music facilitator, writer, industry practitioner or entrepreneur. Progression to our postgraduate music degrees in performance, songwriting, composition and production will be available with fee discounts.

By employing a variety of assessment methods, the BA Voice (Performance & Pedagogy) aims to comprehensively evaluate students’ progress, knowledge, skills and reflections, while providing them with valuable feedback and support to further their development. Assessment methods include:

Vocal Performance;

Teaching Practicum Assessments;

Research and academic writing / presentation;

Portfolio Submission

Academic Requirements

BA (Hons) - 3 Years

96 UCAS tariff points from level 3 studies or equivalent, which normally include A Level Music or a BTEC Extended Diploma in a Music-related subject.

A minimum of three GCSEs including English Language at Grade C / Grade 4 or above or equivalent international qualification, eg IELTS 6.0 (5.5 in each component).

Leeds Conservatoire does not charge audition fees for any Undergraduate or Postgraduate course.

In many cases, if you prefer to submit your audition online rather than attend in person, this is an option. However, we don't want travel costs to be a barrier to attending in-person auditions at Leeds Conservatoire, so help is available for many applicants where finances are an issue. Performance Opportunities

Students on our Popular pathway play at our regular showcase, ‘Crosswire’, and perform at venues throughout the city, including the Brudenell Socal Club, Belgrave Music hall, Oporto and Nation of Shopkeepers. In addition, many of our students join the Contemporary Pop Choir and other extra-curricular ensembles that the college run.

  • Eurosonic Festival (Netherlands)
  • The Royal Festival Hall (London)
  • Crosswire (a regular night for Leeds College
    of Music Pop and Production students)
  • BBC One’s Pitch Battle (Winners) – made up of singers from our Contemporary Pop Choir

We have over 70 teaching rooms, practice rooms and bespoke ensemble rehearsal spaces, as well as a comprehensive library of instruments, mics and recording equipment, that are all available until late during term-time.
