Undergraduate Audition & Interview Information

The following information is for UK applicants only. EU and International applicants can find audition and interview information here.

UK applicants to certain courses at Leeds Conservatoire will need to audition, interview or submit a portfolio of work. Auditions for Clearing 2020 applicants will take place online. Further information can be found in our Clearing Guide.

What you will need to prepare for your audition/interview/portfolio will depend on the course you apply for. We are currently working with our programme and admissions teams to develop our audition experience for 2021 entry applicants. Your audition may take place online or in-person, but we will provide full guidance for you in due course.

In the meantime, you can look at our 2020 entry guides to give you an idea of what we might ask you to do.

Audition and interview guides 2021 entry

Classical

Due to current social distancing guidelines, we are asking all of our applicants to submit their audition materials online this year, rather than attend an audition in-person.

This guide will set out what you will need to submit when applying to one of our Classical courses at Leeds Conservatoire.

Jazz

Audition and interview guides 2020 entry

Acting

Acting applicants will need to audition.

We are currently working with our programme and admissions teams to develop our audition experience for 2021 entry applicants. Your audition may take place online or in-person, but we will provide full guidance for you in due course.

Actor Musician

Actor Musician applicants will need to audition.

We are currently working with our programme and admissions teams to develop our audition experience for 2021 entry applicants. Your audition may take place online or in-person, but we will provide full guidance for you in due course.

Musical Theatre

Music Theatre applicants will need to audition.

We are currently working with our programme and admissions teams to develop our audition experience for 2021 entry applicants. Your audition may take place online or in-person, but we will provide full guidance for you in due course.

Classical

Classical applicants will need to audition.

Applicants combining Classical with another pathway may also need to prepare a portfolio.

Film Music

Film Music applicants will need to submit a portfolio.

Folk

Folk Music applicants will need to audition. 

Applicants combining Folk with another pathway may also need to prepare a portfolio.

We are currently working with our programme and admissions teams to develop our audition experience for 2021 entry applicants. Your audition may take place online or in-person, but we will provide full guidance for you in due course.

Jazz

Jazz applicants will need to audition.

Applicants combining Jazz with another pathway may also need to prepare a portfolio.

We are currently working with our programme and admissions teams to develop our audition experience for 2021 entry applicants. Your audition may take place online or in-person, but we will provide full guidance for you in due course.

Music Business

Business applicants will be assessed by UCAS application. If it is not possible to make a decision based on the application then the applicant will be invited to submit a portfolio for assessment. 

We are currently working with our programme and admissions teams to develop our portfolio and interview experience for 2021 entry applicants. This may take place online or in-person, but we will provide full guidance for you in due course.

Music Production

Production applicants will be asked to submit a portfolio for assessment. 

Applicants combining Production with another genre will also need to submit additional recorded audition material.

Foundation Degree (FdA) in Music Production 

Applicants will be assessed by UCAS application. Some applicants may be invited to submit a portfolio for assessment.

Popular

Popular Music applicants will need to audition. 

Applicants combining Popular Music with another pathway may also need to prepare a portfolio.

Songwriting

Audition travel costs 2021 entry

Audition fees are no longer be charged for any undergraduate or postgraduate course at Leeds Conservatoire.

If you are invited to attend your audition in person, and  you are from a household with an income of less than £25,000, and would like to apply for a refund of your travel costs, please download further information and an application form here.

Please note: travel cost refunds apply to UK residents who have already applied, and have attended an audition in person at Leeds Conservatoire, not to those attending locally based workshops/masterclasses or pre-application auditions.
