Updates for Students on SPACE (login required)

We are regularly updating the Coronavirus information for students on SPACE (login required) - please check SPACE and emails for updated and more detailed guidance.

Update: 24 Feb 2021

On-campus teaching for all courses will resume on Monday 8 March.

All classes will be delivered as planned before Christmas: some classes will be timetabled in the building, and some will continue online until the end of the year. Your Programme Leader will tell you if there are any changes to your specific classes.

You are expected to attend on-campus classes unless:

  • You are self-isolating with suspected or confirmed Covid-19, in which case report your absence here.
  • You need to be absent for another reason, in which case report your absence here.
  • You are extremely clinically vulnerable, in which case please contact your Programme Leader. If you are unsure about your health status, you can find our self-assessment for people at higher risk here.
  • You are overseas and are unable to return because of travel restrictions, in which case please contact your Programme Leader.

If you cannot attend in person for any of the reasons above, we will try to make arrangements for you to attend online, but we may need some time to arrange it. Please tell us as soon as possible if any of these apply to you.

Returning to Campus before 8 March

Where possible, students should remain in their vacation accommodation and should not travel to access facilities until on-campus teaching restarts on 8 March.

Important: You will only be able to attend our buildings if you have pre-booked your space and your booking has been confirmed - there is no open access to our buildings. Check SPACE for details before making a booking.

If you become unwell you must immediately self-isolate in line with current guidelines and fill in our reporting your absence form.

Asymptomatic Testing for Staff and Students

Asymptomatic lateral flow tests are available for all students. Tests will take place at Leeds Beckett University's Headingley and City campuses.

  • Students should go for a test twice on their return to campus  - immediately on their return then again three days after.
  • From 8 March students should continue to be tested twice a week

If you begin displaying symptoms of COVID-19 infection, you must return to your student accommodation immediately and self-isolate in line with the current guidelines, including the guidelines from your accommodation provider. This may mean that the people you live with will also need to isolate.

You will need to inform us by filling in our reporting your absence form, as will the people you live with.

Procedure if a case is reported

If anyone you have had close contact with reports a positive Covid-19 test, you will be expected to self-isolate according to government guidance. We will deliver as much of your tuition online as possible, if you are well enough to participate.

Becoming unwell in our buildings

If you become unwell while you are in one of the conservatoire buildings, you should avoid contact with anyone. Put a face mask on immediately and sanitise your hands if you can. Avoid touching surfaces. If you are feeling well enough to leave the building, then you must return to your student accommodation immediately and self-isolate.

If you think that you need medical attention you should alert your tutor (if in a lesson) or call a First Aider. Contact details for First Aiders can be found on a green poster found on the wall in various locations throughout our buildings. The First Aider might accompany you to an isolation room until medical help can be provided.

You will then need to inform us by filling in our reporting your absence form, as will the people you live with.

Students at higher risk

If you are advised by your doctor to start shielding while you are studying, you will be able to tell us through the absence reporting procedure.
